Tips and maintenance for air conditioners & heating sys

If your house is old and the construction is in need for repair, first get the repair done. Your utility bill could be reduced if your house has the right insulation needed when an air conditioner or heating system is running.
When it comes to electrical equipment, regular maintenance is important to keep them working efficiently and also extend their lifespan. They also provide a better output as a result which is good for your money.

Air conditioners are of various designs - evaporative air conditioning, split ACs, etc. Each one has its specifics and needs to be taken care of accordingly. But there are a few things that apply to all. The same goes for heating systems.

There are individuals who like to get their hands into everything around the house. They read up on the machine and are ready to pull it apart to DIY. Others who are not interested or don’t have enough confidence resort to professional help to get the same work done.
But knowing a few things about the machine will help you avoid unnecessary trouble and expenditure.

Be it the heater or the air conditioner that you use, a few tips that will help you are given below –

1. The air conditioner has a filter. This needs to be changed every month at least. If not done, there can be several issues such as poor air quality, allergies, and other health related issues. Regular cleaning and changing when necessary will keep the health of your AC and family intact. It is an easy maintenance task. Just schedule it on time and keep reminders in your calendar for the same.

2. Control the temperature – use the thermostat to set a temperature that’s optimum. Use a smart timer to set the time for the AC to switch back on and off when no one is at home. When there’s no one at home, there’s no need for any air-conditioning. However, there are other methods one can use to regulate utility bills. Regulating the temperature with control is just one of them.

3. Reduce work load for the machine – Just check the sealing of your house. Is it well insulated? The more pressure you exert on the machine, the lesser it will last. On the other hand, if you let it work in a relaxed environment making sure all vents and windows are closed tight, the machine will pretty much live up to its expectations. That saves you money too. Insulate the home well enough to stop any air from passing out or coming in. If there’s any room that doesn’t need conditioning, close it off properly and shut down the vents.

4. Clean the system – Clean the unit of any blockages. Ensure there’s no flammable stuff near the central heater. A conditioner that is constantly on gets pretty hot in the heater. This could lead to a fire risk if any paper or fabric gets close. Regularly clean the condenser too.
